FAQ
1Q. Can you tell me where to find music files for these songs? 1A. Sure! Try Trevor Barnes' fight songs site first. If he doesn't have the song that you're looking for, the best bet would probably be the particular university's athletics or marching band site. If that still doesn't get you what you want, you might want to consider e-mailing the people in charge of the athletics and/or marching band sites and asking them if they would put the song up. It's quite possible that they would! 2Q. What about sheet music? 2A. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to help out as much here. I suppose that you could try contacting the music department of the university whose song you are interested in, or maybe a music store local to that university. Other than that, I don't know...sorry! 3Q. What about CD's? 3A. Sure! I would go to the major CD sellers on the net like CDNOW and Amazon.com. From there, just search for "college fight songs" and you should be set! 4Q. I have a song to contribute. What do I need to do? 4A. Just send me an e-mail with the title of "new song submission" and with this information:
Please be patient if I don't get to it immediately. I try to update every once in a while, but sometimes I have to resort to updating en masse when I get a block of time. Rest assured that if you send it to me, and it gets to me, that I do read it and will eventually add it! I tend to add things in the order in which they were sent to me. 5Q. I noticed something wrong with the lyrics to a song. What do I need to do? 5A. Send me an e-mail with the title of "song correction" and with this information:
6Q. We don't sing (insert song) the way that you have it now. What you've got is outdated. Do you want to know how we sing it now? 6A. Well, I certainly understand that songs change over time and for different reasons (after all, if Eastern Michigan teams aren't called the Hurons anymore, then it seems pretty silly to have a "Huron Fight Song" on this site, as it was for quite a few months). I really do care about the historical accuracy of the songs (after all, this site was based on my love of traditions associated with college football). So I will probably keep the version of the song that I have on the page, especially if I have a reference on the song that I can assume is credible, such as the school's marching band site. However, popular ways of singing fight songs do change (the prime example here is probably Texas' "Texas Fight" where the historical line "Hail, hail, the gang's all here" has all but been replaced with "Give 'em hell, give 'em hell, go Horns go"). Considering this, I will place an entry on the differences page stating the changes that have taken place over the years. So you can send me an e-mail with the title of "song difference" and with this information:
7Q. Searching doesn't work. Why? 7A. Probably error on my part. :) I have just been learning Javascript, so something could be messed up on that side, and I may not have changed all of the internal links that I needed to. If that's the case, please e-mail me and let me know. There's also the possibility that I'm not linking to the school by the name that you're trying to use. Many schools have different "names", such as Southern Cal/USC. I haven't added all of these, so if the school that you're looking for has more than one common means of reference, try another one and see if it works. |
