a few random workday thoughts

  • Has there ever been a staunch liberal?
  • Do you suppose that when Tony Giles needs a pick-me-up, he says to himself, “THIS…IS…TONY GILES!”, or “Stand and deliver a ‘Roll Tide’…for me!”? I would, if I were him.
  • One of the things that have run through my mind recently: wondering how much a typical family saves by repairing items with Super Glue than buying new items.
  • Is it just me, or could the lead singer of Five for Fighting and Dave Matthews switch places? No one would notice if they only heard them.
  • Among the items on my desk right now: a Nerf football, a Rubik’s cube, a foam boomerang, and a jar of M&M’s. All have been used today.

wedding site updates

Check out the wedding site — I’ve added some new information to it.

And here are a couple of random thoughts for you, too…

  • One of the more fun words to say in the English language, in my opinion, is devour.
  • The number one sign that I’m getting old: the fact that I’m posting this around 10:45, or about an hour after I normally go to bed now.
  • From the department of things that really rock: the apartment I’ll move to in April will be 1.2 miles away from work. This means an extra 30 minutes of sleep every day. This is A Good Thing. (R)
  • If I had to list the things I miss about being a teenager, the list wouldn’t be all that long, but my metabolism would definitely be the first thing on it.

feeling a bit down

I have a bit of a cold today, like many people apparently up here. I never like being sick, but this was my first time going to work feeling sick. I didn’t look forward to it. I got through the day well enough, but I was ready to get home.

A site update: a big update to the rivalries site. Check there for updates.

the one time you’ll ever see political commentary here

I feel reasonably certain that I’ve never made political commentary on this site before. There are several reasons for this. One is that I don’t tend to follow politics all that much. This stems from many things, not the least of which is my complete and utter disdain for the whole process. It seems like it’s almost better if you don’t win, because then you get to complain about the person/party that’s currently in office, and tell all of the city/state/country that if only you had been elected, things would be so much different.

I know better than to say that my life goes by unimpeded by the political process. Without it, I don’t have the roads to drive on to go to work, or quite possibly a job to go to without initiative for small business owners. And so on. But I’ll come right out and say it…I really don’t see that much first-hand contact with the government and politics in general in my day-to-day life. And that’s exactly how I like it.

The above statement probably gave you a pretty good insight into what I believe politically, but if you require me to say red or blue, I’ll tell you I’m a Republican. This is not to say that I’d always vote a straight ticket, or for that matter, that I restrict my beliefs into one of the two parties. For example, I like some of what the Libertarian Party thinks. But there’s also some of it that I very strongly disagree with.

Anyway, I realize that the “laissez-faire” style I like is not the case for many people around the country. Whether you’re trying to convince someone that another tax cut is just what the economy needs to continue moving forward, or that the social topic du jour (I won’t say it here, but it rhymes with “day carriage”) applies to you in a specific way and you feel shorted by the system, there are plenty of people out there who are trying to get ahead via the political process.

The problem is that they think by advocating one of two sides or candidates, that this will be the case.

FQ2K4!

It’s back!

Tonight, Kelly and I will be joining Ricky and Tammy for the 6th 1122 Productions Flannel Quest! This will be the first FQ in three years, and the first ever to include my significant other in the mix, which I must say I’m happy about. 🙂

It’s already a good time for flannel, as it’s already starting to get colder up here. Right now 90% of my cold weather clothing is packed up, so it would be nice to have something to wear around the house right now before I can get down to Gainesville and get my winter wear. But mainly it’s an excuse to get together and relive some old traditions (and who knows…maybe even start some new ones).

Watch this space (and the aforementioned flannel page) for the report on the trip. And as for the “coming soon” on the 2001 version…you might have to wait a bit longer. I don’t even remember anything about it! 🙂

hmm

I seem to have added another year to my life. Funny, that. I think that officially pushes me out of the “mid-20s” now, doesn’t it?
