Seasons in the sun

I don’t like sunbathing that much. It’s just not fun to me, because I can’t do anything but lie there. I’ve tried reading a book, but positioning oneself for concurrent optimal reading comfort and effective body coverage is pretty much impossible. So I don’t sunbathe very often.

Well, after getting home and having my mother ask me if I’ve spent my last few months underground, I decided to bite the bullet and do it. So this morning, after coating my sunburned areas liberally, I went out and laid out there for an hour. Half an hour on each side. That’s probably about all the sun I can handle at a time right now without turning myself into a giant lobster.

It wasn’t that bad, I guess, but I still feel like I didn’t really do much of anything. Then again, I didn’t really do much of anything yesterday, either…

You know, I miss laying out. Last summer, every day, Casey and I layed out by the pool, swam a little, layed out some more, and then went in to watch TV. It was good times for all. I got a good tan and got to spend time with a great friend. There is no such thing as laying out around the pool up here. Nobody has a pool, to begin with. And, the only people with tans are those that bought them from a bottle or a booth. It is pretty fashionable to be pasty around here. I like it- I don’t have to worry about people making fun because they all look like me. It’s nice to be in the majority. Don’t let anyone’s criticism get to you- stay as pasty as you please, and enjoy yourself thoroughly!! And greetings and salutations from Philly!!!

Crystal’s got a point. Staying untan isn’t all that bad for you. It’s actually the healthy thing to do. But, if you burn easily, it’s best to have some tan or wear lots of sunblock/screen if you don’t want to scorch yourself. And if doing nothing but lay in the sun for a while is too much for you because you hate to do nothing, (know the feeling) get a library card and check out a book on tape. That way you could be listening to a story and increasing your auditory skills. You could always just listen to music too. Whatever you decide on, have fun!

You know, it’s okay to do nothing every once in a while. Cherish the opportunity while you have it! As for sunbathing, use it as another way to enjoy the outdoors. Slather on some sunscreen, get a good book or magazine, crank up the radio, and vegetate. You don’t have to stay pasty (ha ha); soak up some rays!!

I like having a tan, but laying out is very boring for me. I tried listening to music, but nothing works… Oh well, it is relaxing.

I love laying out, even though it’s boring. My girlfriend and I plan on going to a park this summer and tanning together. It won’t be boring because I’ll have somebody to talk to and it’ll pass the time. There is nothing quite as relaxing as lying on my stomach on a blanket on the soft grass with baby oil splashed on my back and baking under the hot summer sun.
