Quick poll

This is just one of those random things I think about (and maybe you have at one point in your life too).

Think of your CD collection. Got it? Okay. Now of the CDs that you have, here’s the question…if you could only listen to one track number off of each CD, what number would it be?

This means you can only listen to track #1 on each CD, or only #2, etc. Obviously, you want to pick the track that has the most songs that you like. And so that leads to the question of which track on a CD generally has the best songs.

My choice? In my collection, I’d have to say number 3, but 7’s close. What do you think and why?

I think #7 would be a strong possibility…I remember thinking that last time we talked about this. Although nowadays with the CD changer and all I don’t really pay attention to track numbers that much, so it’s hard to say. If I could only have one CD, though, I think it’d be City on a Hill.

In a not-so-random survey recently conducted by myself, I found that, although there were MANY different choices, Tracks #4 and #5 were most commonly my favorite. These were mixed in with a number of others: #2, #3, #6, #9, #10, and #12. Also, if I could only have one CD, I would have to make it myself by burning mp3’s as data and listening to it in my new mp3 CD player. There is no way I could choose just 80 minutes of audio to last me a lifetime. Give me 5 hours or give me the radio!

I think I’m gonna have to go with #3 on this one, #1 is becoming a close second, and #’s 10,11 are close too. If I had to pick one cd id have to go with Third Day’s Offerings.

I think #3 is the best choice overall. However, I’ve found that the odd numbered tracks tend to be my favorites on a lot of CDs. Also, I think the second to last and the last songs on CDs are usually high up there as well. As for just one CD, that’s tough. I don’t know if I could do that without making my own mix CD, but Passion One Day and Third Day Offerings are probably tied for my non-burned top choice.

Since I’m at work and bored, I think I’ll start a whole new debate. What’s the best hidden track on a CD? My vote’s for Third Day Offerings.

In response to Stacy’s question I have to go with the Cartoon Song on Chris Rice’s second cd. I can’t remember the name of the cd however.

As for Brandon’s question, there is no one specific number when I looked through my c.d.s. But, I have to agree with Kate, it was never the first one. And as for Stacy’s hidden track question, I’ll have to say the album self-entitled by the group All Star United.

Hi, Kate! Thanks for dropping by! It was good to see you at the wedding!Good follow-up question, Stacy. My personal favorite is “Psalm 139” from Rebecca St. James’ “God”, but Chris Rice’s “Cartoons” (which is from “Past the Edges”, by the way) is also right up there.

I think all the nominees for best hidden songs have been good so far (nice obscure call on ASU, Ginny). I would add PFR’s “Gurgling Song” and Jars of Clay’s “4:7”. And we can’t forget DC Talk’s poems on their last two CDs (K Max is in the house), but I guess you may or may not consider those as songs. Anyhow, I’d have to go with Jars and “4:7”, because it’s so good I actually went to the trouble to edit out the preceding song and silence and burned it to a CD so I could listen to it easier.

I forgot about Cartoons! Hmm…now you’ve got me thinking…. And for the record, I’m glad I started a whole new discussion. Yay me! 🙂

#1 is always sucky..and it’s a lonely number. #2 is just one more than one and not really all that exciting either. #3 is the one to choose by far. I had never had such a deep thought..thank you brandon german
