Passage: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

Sometimes it's really hard to keep the faith. Why? Because of the very definition of the word. In today's society, believing without seeing is not common. Yet it is done, because we do it every day. Take this story...

Once a Buddhist monk was asked by one of his pupils if nirvana existed. He responded with this question: does the wind exist? The pupil, obviously, said yes. The monk responded, "Please identify the wind, then, by its shape or color or size." The pupil said, "I cannot do that." The monk asked, "Then how does it exist?" The pupil replied, "Because I feel it...I know it is there." "In the same way, then, nirvana exists," answered the monk.

Replace the word nirvana with God and you have our faith. We do not see God in terms of the everyday use of the word. We don't (indeed, we couldn't) look at His face. But we know He is here. How? By the sights and sounds of nature around us that constantly remind us of His creation. By the things that happen in our lives that show us that He is still working in them. By answers of prayer. By friends. And so much more.

No, we do not see God with our eyes. We see Him with our hearts and our souls. Faith is not eyesight...it is heart-sight.
