apartment pictures
Here are some pictures of the apartment that I moved into three weeks ago as of today (8/18/2002). There's even a little short description for your reading pleasure. There's a decent amount of pictures on the page, but they're optimized reasonably well, so it shouldn't take too long for them all to download.
A shot of the kitchen. Nothing really to write home about. My mug "collection" is on top of the refrigerator, as it was in Tuscaloosa. In case you're interested, the writing on the whiteboard is "paper towels" - I'm out right now.
The kitchen area opens out into the dining/living rooms, which seems to be a Florida thing. I kinda like it, though; it makes the apartment seem bigger to me. Off to the right of the shot is the pantry; you're seeing the breadbox protruding from it.
Both the kitchen and the bathrooms feature tile floors, another common Florida touch. You're seeing the kitchen's flooring here. The bathroom tiles are just as large but are more of a light beige color.
The dining room. The table and chairs are over 100 years old, I believe. They belonged to my great-grandmother. I thought that the lantern in the center made for an old-fashioned touch, even if it is from Brookstone. :)
The living room; my main section of it, anyway. Pretty standard fare.
Another living room shot. I'm not thrilled that there's nothing on the wall above the couch right now, but I don't have the funding to get anything to put there that I like. So we'll just have to hold off for now. The photograph of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that hung above the fireplace in Tuscaloosa is situated on the opposite wall.
But at least I have a coffee table!
My bedroom - you're seeing the bed, my nightstand, and the bureau here. Admittedly, not the greatest shot in the world. The original picture was really dark because of the dark blue bedspread, so I lightened it up a bit. But you get the general idea. And yes, I know that the pictures are not level with each other. Hopefully, that will be remedied soon. :)
Another picture of bedroom furniture. Interesting story behind the lamps - the bases are made of old M105 shells. My grandfather had a craftsman make them while he was stationed in Germany.
The study, or as I like to call it, "The Alabama Room". Friends are in for a shock when they come to my apartment. :) You're seeing the left side of the far wall; the bathroom and closet are on the left wall.
My bookcases are both in the "Alabama Room" now, for quick access when I need books to study. My weight bench is at the bottom of the picture; I decided to put it here rather than my bedroom like it was in Tuscaloosa because I had more room here.
Ye olde computer. Emphasis on "olde". :) Hopefully, the one you're seeing here will become a full-time Linux box soon...
Here I'm outside on my porch, which is screened-in and has a fan. You're seeing the view around 4:00 on just about any afternoon in Gainesville; that is, it's always raining around then.
