The Working World

Most people with office jobs don't get a lot of work done on Mondays, because they're tired from the weekend and still trying to get back into the swing of things.

On Tuesday morning, they're still catching up from stuff over the weekend and the stuff that they should have done on Monday when they were too busy telling other people about what they did over the weekend.

On Thursday afternoon, everyone starts looking forward to the weekend and making plans for what they're going to do. They're too excited about the fact that it's almost Friday to get any real work done.

Obviously, nothing gets done on Fridays, because it's the day before the weekend. The atmosphere at virtually any office is relaxed. During football season, even less work gets done because everyone is discussing that weekend's matchups. Since there is an unwritten rule banning meetings on Friday afternoons, people are free to daydream and count the seconds until it is time to leave.

So if you really think about it, the company only gets about two days of work out of you each week. Why not make everyone a lot happier and not make them come into work the rest of the time? If you only had to work two days a week, you would be very focused that whole time...you'd have to be. Morale would be through the roof, and with that much time off, people would actually look forward to coming into work most of the time.

Everyone's homes would be cleaner and their yards would be neater, because they would have so much more time to take care of household needs. This extra time in and around the home would mean people would get to know their neighbors better, leading to more friendships and general happiness. This would inevitably lead to eventual world peace.

So as you can see, a lot can be gained by shortening the work week...
