Slightly Embarassed

I did something yesterday that I'm not very proud of.

No, I didn't cheat on my taxes or forget to tip my waiter. I didn't prank call 911 or start World War III. I didn't buy a Marilyn Manson CD, nor did I rip the tag off of my mattress. I didn't buy any beer for the middle schoolers hanging out in the convenience store parking lot, and I didn't vote for a Democrat. I didn't key anyone's car or knock over anyone's mailbox. I didn't roll through a stopsign or consume a lot of MSG. I didn't watch anything on Lifetime and I didn't club any baby seals.

Don't ask, because I'm telling you now that I didn't hijack a bus or call in a bomb threat to a school. I didn't block anyone's driveway, and I didn't hack into any websites. I didn't buy any clothes made by Asian children and I didn't poison anyone's water supply. I didn't rebroadcast any NBA games without explicit written consent of the National Basketball Association. I didn't cheer for Auburn, and I didn't eat an entire box of chocolate covered cherries.

What I did do, however, is run out of gas. I've been driving for about 8.5 years, and this has never happened to me before. I could blame my new car, because it apparently doesn't leave as much room for error when it's on E as my old car did, but that's still not a really good excuse. I was on my way to my parents' house to pick up Tammy, and just before I got there, as I was going uphill, my car died. I freaked out and couldn't believe that my brand new car that was less than a month old was already having problems, and I was quite upset. A guy stopped and helped me push it off the road (it had died so quickly that I couldn't even pull off the road all the way), and he then gave me a ride to my parents' house that was about a block away. I was about to call Saturn and really let them have it when I remembered that I was low on gas, because I had planned on getting some after I picked Tammy up. We borrowed dad's gas can, and sure enough, that was the problem. I felt like an idiot.

So the moral of the story, all you younger guys, is to always gas up your car BEFORE you pick the girl up. She doesn't want to sit there in the car while you put gas in it. I normally do that, but I guess since we're engaged and all I was taking Tammy for granted. :)
